It said the contact tracers will earn $18 to $22 per hour, with supervisors earning $22 to $24.
Recruiting, hiring, and training will be handled by a firm called Insight Globall under a $23 million federally-funded contract, the Pennsylvania Department of Health said.
The department said recruiting will be focused on people who lost their job due to the coronavirus pandemic. The work will involve both full-time and part-time positions, with people working from home and using computers supplied by the state.
The 1,000 contact tracing jobs announced Friday will be in addition to 654 contact tracers already at work in Pennsylvania, the health department said.
Contact tracing is considered a key part of controlling COVID-19 in Pennsylvania. The idea is to quickly locate everyone who had close contact with someone who tests positive so they can isolate themselves to prevent further spread of COVID.
An announcement on Friday morning gave no contact information about applying for the contact tracing jobs or when hiring will take place.
