Directors Guild of America Reaches Tentative Labor Settlement With Hollywood Studios

After a tumultuous process, the Directors Guild of America (DGA) has announced that it has reached a tentative three-year labor agreement with Hollywood studios and streaming companies. The DGA described the new agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers as "historic," and will put the agreement to its board on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Writers Guild of America is still on strike as they negotiate their own terms with studios and streaming companies.
The DGA's negotiation committee is pleased with the deal's advances in wages, streaming residuals, safety, creative rights, and diversity, as well as an agreement on key issues like artificial intelligence to protect DGA members from being replaced by technology. The DGA President, Lesli Linka Glatter, highlights that the agreement recognizes the global future of the film industry and the unique role of directors and their teams in them.
Specifics of the agreement include increased wages and benefits, new terms and conditions for directors and their teams on non-dramatic programs made for SVOD, new residuals for high-budget AVOD projects, and safety advancements, among other things. Additionally, this agreement promotes increased studio transparency in residuals reporting, diversity, and inclusion, and adds Juneteenth as a paid holiday.
