NEBRASKA, NEW HAMPSHIRE AND SOUTH DAKOTA POST LOWEST JOBLESS RATES IN MAY

 


Nebraska, New Hampshire, and South Dakota posted the lowest jobless rates among all US states in May at 1.9% each, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The next-lowest rates were in North Dakota and Vermont at 2.1% each.

The bureau also noted several states posted their lowest unemployment rates since 1976. They include Arkansas, 2.7%; Maryland, 2.4%; Mississippi, 3.2%; Nebraska, 1.9%; New Hampshire, 1.9%; Ohio, 3.6%; and Pennsylvania, 4.0%.

Nevada had the highest unemployment rate among states in May at 5.4%.

Massachusetts had the largest year-over-year decrease in the unemployment rate among all states, falling 0.9 percentage points.

California, Minnesota and the District of Columbia recorded the largest year-over-year jobless rate increases in May, rising 0.5 percentage points each.
