5 in-demand summer jobs that pay over $20 an hour—and where to find them

Although summer officially started on June 21, the summer job market has been booming for weeks as various industries prepare for their busiest seasons. Despite concerns of a recession, consumers are showing a strong appetite for traveling, dining out, and attending concerts. As a result, many employers are hiring more workers to meet the increased demand. Some employers are even raising salaries and offering bonuses to attract talent. This year, summer hiring has been strong across a wider range of industries, including hotels, movie theaters, sports venues, as well as summer camps and swimming pools.

If you're still searching for a summer job, there are plenty of high-paying, in-demand opportunities available. According to data from ZipRecruiter and Indeed, here are five well-paying summer jobs: seasonal event manager (average pay: $30 an hour), seasonal pest control technician (average pay: $21 an hour), a parks maintenance worker (average pay: $31 an hour), seasonal sports coordinator (average pay: $26 an hour), and tutor (average pay: $24 an hour).

It's important to note that summer jobs are becoming more competitive. ZipRecruiter has seen a 40% increase in applications compared to last year. Therefore, it's recommended to apply early and explore a wide range of job opportunities. In addition to online job boards like Indeed, ZipRecruiter, and LinkedIn, local government websites often post seasonal and summer job opportunities in the area.

As Julia Pollak, the chief economist at ZipRecruiter suggests, with a plethora of opportunities available, workers can aim to achieve multiple goals by finding a job that either develops a new skill or provides a fun experience.
