SmartAsset analyzed the Census Bureau's One-Year ACS for 2022 to see which cities millennials moved to and from. The survey covered 268 cities, where data was available for its 100,000-plus residents, and millennials were defined as those aged between 25 and 44, or between the birth years of 1979 and 1998. Here's what they found.
Key Takeaways:
In terms of sheer volume, coastal cities New York (414,338) and Los Angeles (207,098) had the largest influx of millennials last year, followed by Chicago (193,082), Houston (157,934) and Austin (103,461).
The largest influx of millennials as a percentage of the cities population was in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with 14.7 percent, which could be attributed to it being a higher-ed hub.
With over 40 percent in each, Jersey City (NJ), Seattle (WA), Denver (CO) and Austin (TX) led American cities with the highest share of millennials.
