Since its November 2022 launch, ChatGPT has been enhancing its mobile app features. The application now supports image input for initiating conversations and also facilitates voice interactions, allowing users to engage in vocal exchanges. While the latter functionality is ideal for activities such as storytelling or settling debates, OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, highlights its usefulness for conducting mock job interviews. This approach is recommended by Simon Taylor, a former Disney recruiter and experienced HR executive, who found the app's interview questions to be spot on.
Taylor suggests a simple process for conducting a mock interview using ChatGPT's voice feature: First, paste the job description into the app and express your intent to conduct a mock interview based on that description. Then, activate voice mode to initiate a dialogue. Taylor emphasizes that the voice on the other end is remarkably natural, making the process feel more human and less awkward. Users can switch out of voice mode at any time and even ask ChatGPT to evaluate their answers by typing "evaluate my answers."
Although the app has its limitations in mirroring the varied interview styles of different employers, Taylor acknowledges its potential for providing helpful feedback. He advises users to prioritize constructive criticism over generic encouragement and to focus on refining their interviewing skills through practice. Taylor further recommends keeping interview answers concise, aiming for about a minute each, as this demonstrates respect for the interviewer's time. In essence, the app serves as a useful tool for interview preparation, helping users anticipate questions and refine their storytelling abilities. As the saying goes, "Practice makes perfect."
