3 red flags recruiters look out for in job candidates: They’re how you ‘get blacklisted,’ says ex-Amazon recruiter

Based on a January 2024 survey conducted by Monster, 95% of people are planning to search for a new job this year, with 68% anticipating difficulties due to the state of the economy. Lindsay Mustain, CEO of Talent Paradigm and a former Amazon recruiter, advises against "validation-seeking behavior," which she describes as conveying desperation, ultimately repelling job opportunities.

She recommends avoiding repetitive job applications to the same company within a short period, proposing a maximum of five applications for closely aligned roles. Additionally, Mustain discourages using LinkedIn's 'open to work' banner, which she believes signals desperation and reduces the appearance of being a high-caliber candidate.

Posting about unemployment on social media from a place of hurt is also discouraged, as it can be perceived as a weakness. Instead, individuals are advised to frame their situation positively and showcase adaptability and a forward-looking mindset to potential employers. The key message is to seek a good job, not just any job.
