I quit my corporate job after it felt like nobody was talking about police shootings of Black men. Now I run a nonprofit working to end police violence.

After devoting over a decade to the corporate world, excelling at saving costs, and enhancing procedures for large corporations, a defining moment occurred during the summer of 2016. This pivotal period was marked by a "babymoon" trip that led to a profound disconnection from the world, subsequently followed by the unsettling news of the tragic deaths of Ronnie Shumpert, Philando Castile, and Alton Sterling. The profound impact of these events, combined with the silence on the subject within the workplace, ignited a deep desire to pursue a more meaningful purpose.

Founding 1 Million Madly Motivated Moms (1M4)

Motivated by the imminent arrival of a Black son and a heartfelt yearning to pave the way for a safer future, the founder repurposed her acquired corporate skills to establish 1 Million Madly Motivated Moms, commonly referred to as 1M4, with the ambitious objective of eradicating police violence by 2038. This transformative initiative was strategically conceived to not only address an urgent societal issue but also to redefine perceptions of the "angry Black woman" stereotype through its moniker "madly," symbolizing intense and fervent dedication.

Initiatives and Impact

A year of diligent research in the organization's early phase led to the development of the resource "The Right Response," aimed at addressing instances of police violence stemming from mental health issues and disabilities. This significant investment resulted in the establishment of approximately 250 units across the nation, designed specifically to provide an alternative or community-based response to emergencies, thereby reducing reliance on law enforcement interactions.

Empowering Directly Impacted Individuals

A core facet of 1M4's endeavors is exemplified by the provision of monetary micro-donations, without any imposition of conditions, to families affected by police violence, coupled with sustained emotional support tailored to the recipient's unique needs. This compassionate approach extends beyond the immediate aftermath, offering guidance and assistance throughout prolonged legal procedures, reflecting the organization's unwavering commitment to advocating for these families.

Upholding the Voices of Those Impacted

Central to the mission of 1M4 is the unwavering dedication to commemorating and championing the names of those directly affected by police violence. By highlighting individual stories and experiences, the organization seeks to convey the profound impact of these events and underscore the imperative need for change within societal frameworks.

Empowering the Community

Through initiatives such as "The Right Response" and the overarching role as a guiding resource, 1M4 actively fosters community engagement, prioritizing a collaborative approach over mere passive followership. The organization's mission is underscored by a sincere desire to facilitate meaningful alliances and active participation within the broader community.

1 Million Madly Motivated Moms transcends its role as an organization, evolving into a beacon of hope and empowerment for countless individuals impacted by police violence. Its unwavering commitment to effecting tangible change and supporting those directly affected embodies a vision for a more equitable and just future. Join in and support this vital cause, as 1M4 goes beyond advocacy to actively shaping a more compassionate and empathetic society.
