The Summer Olympics bring the world together as countries root for their athletes on the biggest stage in sports. At home, patriotic pride rings through the U.S. as swimmers, gymnasts, volleyball players, basketball stars, and more bring home the coveted gold, silver, and bronze medals.
The 2024 Games are taking place in Paris between July 26 and August 11, and sports and fashion will once again intersect as top-tier athletes sartorially creatively showcase their team spirit. Ralph Lauren is once again the official outfitter of Team USA for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, (the ninth time that the brand has held the distinction), and the 2024 collection is patriotic—but with a Parisian flair.
On June 18, the famed American fashion house unveiled its outfits for the 2024 Opening and Closing ceremonies:. Among the looks? A preppy navy blue blazer with red-and-white piping along the lapel and sleeves, plus a blue-and-white striped button-up, jeans for the Opening ceremony (because what's more American than denim?), and a white-on-white racer-style jacket with matching jeans for the Closing ceremony.
It's not a coincidence that the uniforms are French girl-coded or look straight off the tracks of the French Grand Prix. According to a press release from Ralph Lauren, the brand pulled inspiration from the City of Light to create the uniforms and the Villagewear collection. "Ralph Lauren’s Team USA collection draws inspiration from the dynamic and vibrant host city of Paris and the rich heritage of Olympic and Paralympic sport and embraces a patriotic spirit reflected in a signature palette of red, white, and blue," the release reads.
The designer also tapped some of this year's competitors as ambassadors, including Bobby Finke (Swimming), Caroline Marks (Surfing), Chiaka Ogbogu (Volleyball), Daniela Moroz (Sailing), Daryl Homer (Fencing), Jagger Eaton (Skateboarding), Jamal Hill (Para Swimming), Jeffery Louis (Breaking), Jessica Long (Para Swimming), Kamren Larsen (BMX Racing), Katie Ledecky (Swimming), Lee Kiefer (Fencing), Melissa Stockwell (Para Triathlon), Roderick Townsend (Para Track & Field), and Shilese Jones (Gymnastics).
“Ralph Lauren is profoundly honored to define the look of the American delegation as they represent our country in one of the world’s most celebrated and storied events," Ralph Lauren Chief Branding and Innovation Officer David Lauren said in a statement. "For nearly 60 years, Ralph Lauren has been a pioneer at the intersection of style and sport—the vibrancy, passion, and self-expression in sport has been a central touchpoint of inspiration for our brand since the very beginning of the iconic Polo brand in 1967. This summer, Paris is the backdrop where fashion and sport will collide on the world’s stage with a global audience and that is an incredibly exciting proposition."
The line, which is manufactured in the U.S., is available starting today on ralphlauren.com, teamusashop.com, and in stores in the U.S. and in France.
How is France gonna have the right to bare arms and we’re not? 😅 For the 16th year in a row, Ralph Lauren designed the outfits for U.S. athletes for the opening and closing ceremony for the Paris Summer Olympics.
