According to a recent survey, women are more content with a lower net worth than men are.
Across the US, the average household makes a median of around $75,000 a year — but many Americans dream of earning far more than that.
To understand people's financial attitudes and preferences, Card Rates surveyed almost 800 US residents aged 18 to 43 — who are currently employed and earning more than $30,000 a year — on the salaries and net worths they would be satisfied with.
More than half of those surveyed (56 percent) said they'd be happy with a liquid net worth of $200,000.
When it comes to the salaries Americans would be content with, people's responses depend on what their current income is. For example, while 66 percent of those earning $40,000 would be happy to make $100,000 a year, only 39 percent of those on salaries of $150,000 agree.
Attitudes to money also differ widely across genders and age groups. In general, the women surveyed were more satisfied with lower net worth levels than the men were — and while securing a higher salary tends to be the focus for Millennial workers, Gen Zers are more interested in increasing their net worth.
