Amazon has rolled out a new benefit for its Prime members: a 10-cent-per-gallon discount on gas at approximately 7,000 BP, Amoco, and Ampm stations nationwide. The company estimates members could save around $70 annually if they consistently use participating stations.
To access the discount, Prime members need to:
1. Download the earnify app
2. Create an earnify account
3. Link it to their Amazon Prime membership
4. Use either their phone number, Amazon-linked payment method, or enter station/pump details in the app
This move expands Prime's benefits beyond its two-day shipping promise from 2005. As the subscription cost has increased from its initial $79 to today's $139 annually ($14.99 monthly), Amazon has continuously added new perks including:
- Streaming services (Prime Video and Amazon Music)
- Healthcare services
- DoorDash DashPass subscriptions
- Grubhub+ memberships
- Enhanced shipping options (one-day and same-day delivery)
The timing is strategic, as gas prices currently average $3.13 per gallon nationally - down 40 cents from last year but still a significant expense for many households. The discount could be particularly valuable as more companies implement return-to-office policies, increasing commuting costs.
Amazon is also planning ahead for EV owners, working with BP's charging network to launch a discount program next year. This move follows competitor Walmart, which has offered fuel discounts to Walmart+ members across 13,000 stations since 2020.
