A ranking reveals the top spots for things that go bump in the night.
If you're looking for a scary stay this Halloween, a new study by the team at Vio.com will point you in the right direction.
After scraping reviews from TripAdvisor and their own website for spook-related keywords, Vio.com ranked US cities based on the number of haunted and paranormal mentions by guests, as well as the share of hotels considered to be haunted.
The cities with the most haunted hotels overall are Savannah, Georgia; Baltimore, Maryland; Orlando, Florida; San Antonio, Texas; and New Orleans, Louisiana.
In both Orlando, Florida and Baltimore, Maryland, more than one in every 200 guests has mentioned haunted activity.
The highest percentages of haunted or paranormal hotels were found in Savannah, Georgia, and Orlando, Florida (12.7 percent).
Perhaps unsurprisingly, haunted hotels (7.7 out of 10) tend to receive lower ratings than ghost-free hotels (8.1). Hotels considered to be haunted are also cheaper, costing an average of $235 per night, compared to $241 for a night at a non-haunted hotel.
The priciest haunted hotels, based on average nightly rates, are located in Key West, Florida ($498); Palm Springs, California ($450); and New Orleans, Louisiana ($421).
