It’s like they took inspiration from Spongebob’s Nasty Patty — these fast food items are the year's biggest flops.
It's always fun to try something new, but with recent inflation, the drive-thru might not be the best place for experimentation anymore. Still, major fast-food chains are constantly rolling out new items, hoping to capitalize on trends before anyone else does.
Unfortunately, this strategy doesn’t always pay off, and our list serves as proof these questionable creations ever existed. Here are five of the grossest ideas fast-food chains came up with this year:
Domino's Giant Doughnuts
A new dessert option that still hasn't debuted in the US, critics have complained that it's just pizza crust with some frosting. That's a shame because this actually sounds like it would slap after scarfing down some pizza.
Burger King's Pickle Fries
The shoestring fried pickles originated from a promotional contest and have since gotten mixed reviews, with many complaining that they're too limp.
Taco Bell's Baja Blast Gelato
Inspired by the famous Mountain Dew Baja Blast flavor, this limited-time dessert option was designed as a creamy twist on the iconic beverage. However, fans were quick to note its sub-par quality and it's lackluster taste, which some said was just too close to the actual drink.
McDonald's Chicken Big Mac
Featuring two crispy chicken patties instead of beef, the burger still came with lettuce, pickles, cheese and the iconic Big Mac sauce. A twist on the classic item, fans recorded themselves on the verge of spitting up.
Wendy's Krabby Patty Combos
The "SpongeBob SquarePants" inspired meal deal came with a pineapple frosty, fries and a burger with a "secret sauce" (that was aioli). Despite its viral promotions, many fans were upset with the high price, lack of theming and the fact it went against the show's creators' wishes to never do a fast food collaboration.
