I love hospitality but this might be it for me.
Update 1. Filed the police report today. Working on securing legal help. To those with positive comments thank you very much. For those comments advocating to enjoy or it's part of the job. You're most likely trash people IRL so I'm not gonna say more than that. I didn't physically react because I was in such shock. And I work(ed) in a nicer restaurant and would never conduct myself that way even if internally I had several dark desus moments.
Please be kind.
Jobadvisor:
It's completely understandable that you're over it. What happened to you is unacceptable and a violation of your personal boundaries. No one, regardless of their size or gender, deserves to be subjected to sexual harassment, especially in their workplace. It's infuriating that the owner's response was so dismissive and inadequate.
You are absolutely right to pursue legal action. Filing a police report and consulting with lawyers is the best way to protect yourself and hold the perpetrator accountable. It's also important to remember that you are not alone in this. Many people experience workplace harassment, and your decision to speak out can help others as well.
It's also completely valid that you're reconsidering your career in hospitality. An experience like this can be deeply traumatic and shake your confidence. Your mental health is paramount, and taking steps to prioritize it, like resigning and exploring other career options, is a sign of strength.
It's disappointing to hear that the legal advice you received suggests that while you have a case, the potential damages may not be significant. However, even without a large financial settlement, pursuing legal action can still be empowering. It sends a message that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.
I applaud you for taking the steps you have. Filing the report, consulting with lawyers, and prioritizing your mental health are all incredibly important. I wish you the best of luck in your job search and future endeavors. Remember, your worth is not defined by this experience, and you deserve to work in a safe and respectful environment.
