Deepfakes are now an every organization problem❗
According to Gartner, by 2028, 1 in 4 job applicants globally will be fake.
In fact, Pindrop recently put our deepfake detection to the test in real-time, with a coder named "Ivan X" who attempted to infiltrate our hiring process.
- The good news? Our tech caught them.
- The bad news? If these attackers pass through your hiring process, the consequences are catastrophic. +300 U.S. firms inadvertently hired impostors for IT work, including a major national TV network, a defense manufacturer, an automaker, and other Fortune 500 companies, the Justice Department reported in May.
CNBC picked up our story, explaining how sophisticated scammers are using deepfake technology to impersonate candidates in video interviews:
Is your org prepared for a malicious, deepfake actor?
1 in 4 job candidates are AI-generated deepfakes. Some companies are even hiring fake employees for remote jobs, enabling hackers to plant malware or carry out other cybersecurity attacks.
We are now seeing Adversarial move from model attacks to human impersonation, as the article shows. This is not just a cybersecurity issue; it is a digital identity and trust crisis. I have supported AI and innovation efforts where identity and Governance emerged as a critical enabler. This challenge is only accelerating.

This has to be one of the easiest cybersecurity threats to stop: Interview the candidate face to face, in person, and maintain local physical oversight. Some technical problems can be solved without more technology.
As if the job market isn't already roiled enough....
Who had AI deepfake Candidates on their 2025 bingo card?
"The rise of AI-generated profiles means that by 2028 globally 1 in 4 job candidates will be fake, according to research and advisory firm Gartner."
Why? Probably bad intentions.
It might not be something many candidates want to hear but a sure-fire way to stop this sort of thing is in-office work...places where real people have to interact.
No necessarily 100% of the time but enough to have some interpersonal engagement...and to know someone is real.
